about
Le Grande Finale. This song is about my battle with acute leukemia when I was 18 years old. Nuff' said.
lyrics
100 days in bed, 100 days inside my head.
And all these drugs inside my head.
And all these holes from which I’ve bled.
And how the fuck did I end up here?
I DON’T KNOW!
When the fuck will I get out of here?
I DON’T KNOW!
Got tubes stuck in my arms and chest.
I’m stuck in bed and I can’t rest.
What am I supposed to do?
These Percocets help me see me through
And how the fuck did I end up here?
I DON’T KNOW!
When the fuck will I get out of here?
I DON’T KNOW!
[Choral interlude]
And in my sleep, the ocean calls to me.
And the moon reflects so sweetly.
I have heard the mermaids singing each to each.
Oh, please, let them sing to me.
What have I done? Oh, where have I gone?
Oh, please, don’t let me drown…
Every day I rise what a sweet surprise.
Come to my side my invisible allies
I said “I want to live!”
I’ll give all I have to give
And when I run out, hear the muse, her holy shout.

Again, Marc Deriso's drumming perfectly conveyed the feeling I was going for. Even thought the content of this song is pretty serious, I wanted it to have the feeling that people would dance to it if it was played loudly in a big hall. Not that I will ever have the chance to do that! Maybe some day.
Also, my bro's guitar work at the end of the song brings tears to my eyes. He thought of the 2 interlocking parts on the spot. "Inspiration, move me brightly"
Finally, I must credit Julian Casablancas's sublime "River of Brakelights" (Phrazes for the Young, Cult Records, 2009) for the chord progression and melody used in the final part of the song, beginning "Every day I rise...". In the section before that, I use the same chord progression, but my melody is different from his.
